Hyve launches Australian hosting hub in Sydney, Melbourne

Hyve Managed Hosting has launched an Australian hub, giving it live data centre locations in Sydney and Melbourne.

The expansion includes a local base in Sydney, where the company has secured office space and later plans to move to Bondi Junction. The site is expected to house sales, technical support, and engineering staff serving customers in Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.

Its Sydney and Melbourne data centres are now operational through Equinix. The sites will support managed hosting and cloud services, including Virtual Private Cloud and Private Cloud offerings, alongside managed security and compliance support.

Both locations have been built with capacity for further expansion if customer demand rises. The launch is aimed at meeting demand from Australian organisations that want cloud infrastructure hosted under Australian jurisdiction.

The issue has become more prominent as boards pay closer attention to data sovereignty and residency requirements. For companies running critical workloads or handling sensitive information, the question is not only where data sits physically, but also which legal jurisdiction applies to it.

Australia has been an active market for data centre investment as businesses and public sector bodies weigh how to manage cloud use while meeting local rules. Providers have increasingly tried to distinguish between simple in-country hosting and arrangements designed to keep data subject to domestic legal controls.

Hyve is entering that market with a model centred on managed services rather than basic infrastructure rental. Local teams will be available from the early planning stage through to ongoing operational support.

The company also pointed to an early customer example in financial services, a sector where data handling rules and operational resilience standards are often more demanding than in other parts of the economy.

Regional push

The Australian launch forms part of a broader international expansion by Hyve. By adding a base in Sydney and local data centre capacity in two major cities, the company is seeking to strengthen its position across Asia-Pacific, not just serve Australia.

The move follows a separate collaboration with Red Hat to provide a fully managed platform built on Red Hat OpenShift. That work is aimed at customers looking to modernise infrastructure and reduce the burden of running complex environments internally.

While the company is now established in Sydney and Melbourne, it is also considering further expansion in Australia. One option under review is a potential data centre location in Perth, which would extend its footprint on the west coast.

Service model

Executives said Hyve's pitch in Australia rests as much on staffing and support as on the physical infrastructure itself. That reflects a competitive market in which many providers can offer capacity, but fewer can claim a direct operational relationship with customers.
