Bitdefender launches AI visibility & control for firms

Bitdefender has launched GravityZone AI Visibility and Control for organisations and managed service providers.

The software is designed to identify employee use of artificial intelligence tools across corporate environments and help security teams manage the associated risks. It is available as an add-on to Bitdefender's GravityZone platform for new and existing Windows customers.

Security teams have struggled to keep pace with the spread of AI tools in workplaces, particularly when staff use unsanctioned services outside formal IT oversight. Bitdefender cited survey findings showing that 47% of organisations do not have full visibility into how employees are using AI.

That gap is a growing concern for companies trying to balance AI-driven productivity gains against the risks of data leakage, policy breaches and unauthorised software use. Managed service providers face the same challenge as customers ask them to oversee a broader mix of tools, including chatbots, coding assistants and locally run large language models.

How It Works

GravityZone AI Visibility and Control uses the existing GravityZone agent to scan for AI applications and services across an environment. This includes chatbots, local large language models, coding assistants, autonomous agents, Model Context Protocol servers and AI-enabled software-as-a-service tools.

Findings are ranked by risk level so security and IT teams can decide which activity needs attention first. The system also works with controls already available in GravityZone, such as application control and web filtering, to allow, restrict or block tools according to internal policy.

The product also ties into GravityZone PHASR, Bitdefender's attack surface reduction technology, using telemetry on AI agent behaviour to adjust security hardening rules. The aim is to reduce manual tuning while giving organisations a way to respond to changing patterns of AI use.

Single Console

Bitdefender is positioning the launch as part of a broader effort to bring AI oversight into the same operational view security teams use for endpoint protection, detection and response. Rather than deploy a separate product, customers can manage AI-related exposures through the existing GravityZone console.

For security buyers, this reflects a wider market trend towards tool consolidation. Companies have spent years trying to reduce the number of separate dashboards and point products used by analysts, and AI governance is emerging as another area where vendors are adding new functions to established platforms.

The launch also underlines how AI is reshaping the attack surface for businesses. Alongside concerns about employee use of public AI services, defenders are dealing with the prospect of AI-assisted cyber attacks that can move faster and operate at greater scale than traditional methods.

Daniel Daraban, Vice President of Products at Bitdefender Business Solutions Group, outlined the company's view of the problem.

"AI adoption is moving faster than most security teams can manage, leaving organizations exposed to risks they can't see," Daraban said.

He said Bitdefender sees earlier intervention as the right model for handling AI-related threats inside corporate environments.

"Closing that gap requires a prevention-first security mindset that identifies and stops threats up front, before they ever reach detection and response or higher defense layers. GravityZone AI Visibility and Control brings that same mindset to AI, so organizations can embrace it with confidence and without unnecessary risk or overhead," Daraban said.

The release comes as businesses continue to formalise rules around the use of generative AI in daily work. Many organisations have introduced policies for approved tools, but enforcement remains difficult when employees can access AI services through browsers, local installs or embedded functions in third-party software.

By focusing on discovery, risk ranking and policy enforcement in one system, Bitdefender is seeking to address that operational challenge for both direct customers and service providers managing client estates. Support for additional operating systems is planned, but the current release is limited to Windows.
