Veritas bolsters cyber resilience with new AI-driven updates

Thu, 26th Sep 2024

Veritas Technologies has introduced new AI-driven capabilities aimed at enhancing the company's cyber resilience portfolio.

These updates include AI-powered automation and user interface improvements designed to assist both data protection specialists and IT generalists in achieving more efficient and reliable cyber recovery.

Geoffrey Coley, regional CTO for Asia Pacific at Veritas, commented on the increasing complexity of data security in today's environment. "In the current macro landscape, data security is becoming increasingly complex, and IT teams are under mounting pressure to ensure that data is always available, with only limited resources," he said. "That's why we're focused on making recovery simpler, smarter and faster. By strengthening cyber resilience capabilities with expanded AI assistance and intuitive management, we eliminate the guesswork and trial and error from the recovery process. Organisations can now bounce back from ransomware attacks quickly and confidently, minimising business disruption."

The newly enhanced user interface and AI-driven features are a part of several key improvements aimed at simplifying cyber recovery. One significant addition is the Veritas Alta View platform, which now boasts an enhanced, highly intuitive user interface. This feature streamlines navigation and operations, allowing both IT specialists and multitasking generalists to manage tasks more efficiently. The platform also integrates AI-driven insights and a cyber risk score for real-time, actionable analytics. Enhanced visualisation tools enable users to monitor their entire data estate, manage risks proactively, and expedite cyber recovery.

Veritas has also focused on automating asset audits and policy creation with its Alta Copilot. This new feature automatically scans and identifies unprotected assets, recommends and applies tailored protection, and integrates with existing protection policies to ensure comprehensive data coverage. Additionally, the speed of threat detection and response has been augmented through hash-based tracking of malware in backup data and blast radius analysis. Once malware is identified, this new functionality reduces the time to scan and assess the spread across the entire data estate by up to 93%.

Another significant update is the inclusion of automated recovery blueprints aimed at mitigating risks and cyber threats. An interactive guide has been developed for IT teams to create, automate, test, and edit workflow plans. These blueprints can be customised at a granular level across multiple domains, including complex hybrid, platform-as-a-service, and container environments, ensuring effective and tailored risk management.

To further optimise recovery, Veritas has introduced automated recovery point recommendations. Through proactive, in-depth analysis, the system provides recommended recovery points, reducing recovery time and potential data loss by eliminating the need for manual identification of the "last known good copy." This approach relies on risk engine analysis, minimising dependence on costly malware scans.

The Veritas Copilot features will be made available in October, while other capabilities will be delivered through updates to Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Alta Data Protection, and Veritas Alta View in September.
