Cequence Security has appointed Randolph Barr as its Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to enhance its API security strategy and customer trust.

With over two decades of experience, Barr comes to Cequence from a distinguished career in cybersecurity, having held pivotal roles at companies such as Zoom Video Communications, Qualys, Cisco-Webex, and InterVenn Biosciences. Barr's experience encompasses advising executives strategically, identifying and remedying security gaps, and leading incident response teams. He has developed IT and security strategies that have effectively reduced risks and fostered security awareness within organisations.

Randolph Barr expressed his motivation for joining Cequence, stating, "I was drawn to Cequence because of its focus on tackling one of today's pressing security challenges—API security. As organisations increasingly rely on APIs to drive web applications and integrate AI, strong API security is essential to protect sensitive data and maintain regulatory compliance. In my role, I plan to build on Cequence's internal security program foundation, enhancing it to meet the needs of customers across different regions and industries. I am committed to maintaining and strengthening customer trust by increasing transparency and ensuring our security efforts stay ahead of emerging threats and compliance requirements."

Throughout his previous engagements, Barr has successfully developed and scaled security programmes in many sectors including software, cloud services, and enterprise security. His initiatives have laid down frameworks to counteract cybersecurity threats effectively and support growth. Barr has aided organisations in securing vital security certifications, ensuring adherence to industry standards, and enhancing their security governance.

Barr's collaborative approach in building cybersecurity teams reflects his commitment to fostering an environment of knowledge sharing and perpetual learning. He highlights the importance of these components in bolstering collective defences against cyber threats. "By creating a culture of open communication, shared responsibility, and continuous learning, I encourage experimentation with new technologies and ideas while maintaining a strong risk management foundation," Barr explained. "Cross-functional teamwork is key, and I invest in professional development and knowledge sharing to ensure the team stays ahead of emerging threats."

Shreyans Mehta, Chief Technology Officer of Cequence, remarked on Barr's impact, saying, "Randolph's extensive experience in developing scalable security frameworks and his strategic approach to risk management will significantly enhance our capabilities at Cequence. As we navigate the complexities of API security and bot management, Randolph's insights will be invaluable in fortifying our security posture and driving innovative solutions that empower our clients to effectively manage their security challenges."

Barr concluded by addressing the unique challenges posed by API security, noting, "APIs are targets for bad actors due to the sensitive data they expose and the complexity of securing them in dynamic environments. Addressing these challenges effectively requires raising awareness and collaboration among security professionals to share approaches, helping organisations better understand and mitigate API security risks."
