SonicWall has opened a new office in Pune, expanding the cybersecurity company's presence in India.

The facility is intended to strengthen SonicWall's engineering and development work in the country and widen access to local technical talent. It will also support product development for international customers alongside the company's existing research and development centre in Bangalore.

India has become a growing focus for global technology companies seeking engineering talent and research operations, supported by a large skills base and rising domestic demand for digital services. The Pune office forms part of SonicWall's longer-term investment and expansion plans in the country.

The operation is expected to connect local teams with SonicWall's global cybersecurity development work. The office will contribute to projects involving artificial intelligence, cloud technologies, cybersecurity research and platform development.

Hiring is set to be a major part of the expansion. SonicWall plans to add 400 engineering roles in India across AI, cloud technology and cybersecurity research, as part of what it describes as one of its largest global development centres.

The move comes as cybersecurity suppliers respond to rising demand from businesses managing more distributed IT environments, broader cloud adoption and security risks linked to AI tools. SonicWall's expanded India team will focus on those areas.

Rajnish Mishra, Chief Development Officer at SonicWall, said: "India is central to SonicWall's growth and innovation strategy. Our Pune office will enable us to cultivate world-class talent, expand our development capacity and create cybersecurity solutions that address customers' changing needs. We look forward to building a lasting presence and contributing to India's technology ecosystem."

The Pune site also reflects the company's interest in western India's technology and industrial base. Pune has built a reputation as a centre for software, manufacturing and engineering businesses, making it an increasingly common choice for companies adding technical and support functions outside larger metropolitan hubs.

SonicWall also linked the local expansion to its customer base among small and medium-sized businesses. That segment remains a core market for the company, particularly as smaller firms face growing pressure to strengthen cyber defences while managing tighter budgets and more complex digital systems.

Debasish Mukherjee, Vice President of Sales, APJ, at SonicWall, said: "SonicWall is looking forward to adding 400 engineering roles in AI, cloud technologies, cybersecurity research and next-generation platform development, establishing one of its largest global development centers and positioning India as a major contributor to its worldwide product strategy."

The company also wants the expanded India operation to support collaboration and skills development, with a focus on building specialised expertise for products sold in multiple markets. The approach reflects a broader trend of multinational technology groups using India not only for support functions but also for core product engineering and research.

Anurag Kahol, EVP and GM, India Operations, at SonicWall, said: "SMBs are a core part of SonicWall's customer base, and Pune's thriving technology and industrial ecosystem makes the region especially important. As local businesses become more connected, we are committed to helping them strengthen cyber resilience and grow securely."
