Redgate launches Flyway MCP Server for AI code control

Redgate has launched an MCP Server for Flyway Enterprise, adding a new layer of database change control for AI-driven software development.

The update is aimed at organisations using AI-generated code and agentic workflows, where uncontrolled database changes can create governance and reliability risks.

Flyway Enterprise is Redgate's database change control product. The latest version introduces the Flyway Enterprise MCP Server, designed to help teams manage database changes within AI workflows while maintaining an audit trail.

The system captures, validates and records AI-driven changes, making compliance checks part of the workflow. Redgate positions it as a way for enterprise technology teams to address manual deployment steps, inconsistent environments and weak validation before software changes reach production.

The launch comes as companies test broader use of autonomous and semi-autonomous AI tools in software delivery. Those tools can produce code quickly, but they also raise oversight concerns, especially when applications interact with business-critical databases.

Redgate cited Gartner research forecasting that 40% of enterprises will decommission autonomous AI agents by 2027 because of governance gaps exposed after costly production incidents. The forecast reflects a wider debate among technology leaders over how to apply controls to AI systems as they move from pilot projects into operational use.

Redgate is also linking Flyway Enterprise more closely with Redgate Monitor, its database observability product. The integration is intended to connect change control with broader visibility across a company's database estate.

Future additions to the platform include operational and security dashboard views. Redgate also outlined further work on Snowflake support, alongside new Databricks functions included in the current release.

Analytics focus

The Databricks additions extend Redgate's governance approach beyond transactional databases into analytics systems, where many AI projects are built and maintained. Snowflake support is part of the company's broader effort to apply the same discipline to schema change in analytics environments.

That matters because AI projects often depend not only on application databases but also on data pipelines, model inputs and reporting systems. Bringing those environments under tighter change control could help organisations reduce the risk of errors introduced through automated development or rapid release cycles.

Redgate has a long history in database development and operations tools, and the new release builds on that background. The company says more than 200,000 data professionals use its products, including teams at 92% of the Fortune 100.

It also cited customer results from Flyway deployments, saying some users have cut change lead times by 58% to 98% and reduced operational support requests by 90%. One reference customer named was Verizon Connect.

Executive view

The latest release shows how software suppliers are adapting database and infrastructure tools for a development environment increasingly shaped by AI. Rather than treating the database as a standard deployment target, vendors are trying to build controls that recognise the operational and compliance risks attached to database change.

For Redgate, the MCP Server is the central addition to that effort, placing governance around database updates as AI systems take on more of the work of writing and proposing code.
