In 2026, security leaders will confront AI-generated doppelgängers capable of issuing legitimate-looking instructions that trigger automated sequences across finance, HR, and IT. Only security-first identity architectures that continuously validate humans, machines, and agent can defend against this shift.
The Asia-Pacific and Japan (JAPAC) region is already seeing the leading edge of this wave, with threat actors such as Muddled Libra embracing AI to increase attack speed and sophistication.

Rather than breaching a network, attackers will manipulate the data that trains an organisation's models to embed backdoors and corrupt behaviours that may go undetected for months.
This exploits a structural weakness common across JAPAC organisations: data teams that lack security context, and security teams that lack visibility into model logic and training pipelines. Data Security Posture Management and AI-SPM tools will become non-negotiable as enterprises move deeper into cloud-native AI.
For a region with stringent localisation requirements, fragmented cloud footprints, and significant regulatory scrutiny, unified observability across data, models, and runtime environments will become the essential foundation for AI trust.
4. The New Gavel: Executive Accountability for AI Failure Becomes Inevitable
The gap between rapid AI deployment and the maturity of security controls is becoming untenable. 5. The Quantum Countdown: Post-Quantum Migration Begins in Earnest
2026 will mark the start of the most complex cryptographic migration in history as AI advances compress the timeframe to a viable quantum computer. Governments are already issuing guidance directing organisations to prepare for post-quantum cryptography, and JAPAC enterprises are responding with urgency. Most organisations lack a basic inventory of their cryptographic footprint, let alone visibility to coordinate an uplift. Cryptographic discovery, algorithm enforcement, and quantum-safe architectures will shift from best practice to operational imperative as the region prepares for a multiyear transition affecting every layer of infrastructure.
