Wrap up of Commvault Cloud Unity unifies data, cyber & identity resilience

Fri, 14th Nov 2025

Commvault has unveiled the Commvault Cloud Unity platform, aiming to streamline how enterprises manage data security, cyber recovery, and identity resilience across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments. The platform brings together previously siloed protection and recovery mechanisms onto a single solution.

Enterprise challenges

Organisations are facing a rising volume of distributed data, which increases risk and vulnerability to cyber threats. The drive towards utilising a mix of cloud, on-premises, and hybrid systems further complicates protection strategies, often requiring multiple tools that do not interoperate effectively. The Cloud Unity platform seeks to address these concerns by merging data security, cyber recovery, and identity resilience functions.

"Enterprises are facing the perfect storm: non-stop cyber threats, exacerbated by AI; attacks on identity systems; and recovery challenges that impact revenues and reputations," said Pranay Ahlawat, Chief Technology and AI Officer, Commvault. "Commvault brought together the best engineering minds to create a transformative platform release that not only unifies resilience across disciplines and environments but can also help customers drive strong business outcomes."

Unified platform

The platform provides access to integrated capabilities for data security, including AI-enabled discovery, policy recommendations, and active data governance. These features are enhanced by the recent acquisition of Satori Cyber, broadening Commvault's data protection suite. The cyber recovery component introduces AI-driven solutions aimed at accelerating incident response, including a new Synthetic Recovery feature designed to isolate and remove compromised datasets after an attack, while restoring unaffected data.

The identity resilience aspect expands Commvault's portfolio, offering detection and auditing functions to counter threats that may target enterprise identity systems such as Active Directory. These consolidated features are presented on a single operations interface to facilitate monitoring, enforcement, and remediation across an organisation's environments.

Operational benefits

The Cloud Unity platform is designed to reduce operational downtime and bolster the availability of business-critical data, regardless of whether it resides in the cloud, on-premises, or across both. By combining what were previously separate tools and workflows for security, identity, and recovery, Commvault aims to streamline policy management and coordinate rapid incident response for clean recoveries. Bringing intelligence on data security, identity access, and recovery performance into one platform is intended to enable AI-driven actions that improve organisational resilience.

"Data security is the foundation of mission-critical IT infrastructure systems," said Allen Downs, Security & Resiliency Vice President, Kyndryl. "By strengthening cyber resilience and recovery for essential services, organizations can better prepare to anticipate, protect against, withstand and recover from potentially disruptive events. In today's environment, resiliency is an imperative."

"There have been hints of this type of platform in the industry where these disciplines are coming together," said Jo Peterson, VP Cloud and Security, Cleartech Research. "But for the first time, Commvault has done it in a meaningful way that will truly advance resilience for enterprises globally."
